Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, known as Michelangelo, was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and poet of the High Renaissance. Born in the Republic of Florence, his work was inspired by models from classical antiquity and had a lasting influence on Western art. He was born on 6 March 1475, Caprese Michelangelo, Italy.
Michelangelo had four known siblings. Leonardo Buonarroti Simoni was born in 1473 and was the oldest of the siblings. The others were Buonarroto Buonarroti Simoni (born in 1477), Giovan Simone Buonarroti Simoni (born in 1479) and Sigismondo Buonarroti Simoni (born in 1481). Michelangelo, who was born Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, was the second-oldest, having been born in 1475.
Michelangelo's most famous works have to be his Pieta, his sculpture of David, and his painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, both of which reside in Italy.
